Has anyone else done things like

1. Disassembling a keyboard to isolate the casing, wash the case in a bath with fairy liquid, wait for it to dry then reassemble it with the circuit board.

2. Drowning heat-sinks in water and scrubbing them clean then use a hair dryer to dry it up.

3. Separate fan blades from the frame and cleaning the whole things and re-attach it adding some new lubricant.

4. Washing a GPU board with white spirits.

I must confess that I once washed an optical mouse with hot soapy water but regrettably it served only to kill it and I had to buy a replacement.

I am reliably informed that keyboards have successfully been put through a dishwasher, allowed to dry thoroughly and worked. I won't be trying it myself however.

1) Ended up with keyboard being thrown away
2) I wouldn't even attempt it
3) Cut my finger and it never worked
4) Strikes fear into my heart, my computer works on the philosophy that "if it works, don't touch anything"

Another small point is i found the cheaper mouse/keyboards alot easier to clean and alot cheaper to replace i personally do not see the benefit of "extreme" keyboards and mouses unless your doing really high end FPS gaming.. and have money, which i dont.

The best keyboard i ever had cost me £7.50 from Asda (Wal mart in USA) , was Microsoft Keyboard but worked incredibly well, broke numerous times and even survived a significant water spillage.

Currently using a wireless keyboard and mouse (again microsoft) and actually getting on with them really well, together £30 and would buy same again.

GPU/CPU/Hardware i generally only clean with dusters or special liquid i get in Maplins.. i just dont take chances on things i have spent £100's of pounds on.

CPU fan cost me nothing, nicked it from an old motherboard, it works fine. About once every 2 months i give my PC an air blast for dust, touch wood its been fine for the past 2 - 3 years iirc.
One must first be crazy to then be sane!
